Museveni’s Inner Circle!!  Trusted Veterans and Rising Voices Return to Power

President Yoweri Museveni has once again demonstrated his commitment to experienced leadership by renewing his trust in several key individuals, reappointing them as senior advisors in various strategic roles. This move highlights his intent to bolster his administration with tested and trusted figures who bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to national governance.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has been reappointed as Special Envoy for Special Duties in the President’s Office. With a long-standing history in Uganda’s political and diplomatic arenas, Rugunda’s return to a pivotal advisory position signals the administration’s reliance on seasoned statesmen to handle complex issues at both national and international levels.

Abbey Walusimbi retains his position as the Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs and Ambassador at Large. Walusimbi has been instrumental in strengthening Uganda’s ties with its diaspora, facilitating engagement, investment, and support from Ugandans living abroad. His continued role ensures the government remains connected to a significant demographic that contributes to the country’s development.

Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye also continues as the Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs. Namyalo has gained recognition for her vigorous mobilization of youth through initiatives such as the Bazzukulu Ba Museveni movement. Her work in encouraging young people to participate in government programs and political discourse has earned praise from the President, who has pledged to support her empowerment activities.

President Museveni’s new advisory team includes other prominent appointments. Phionah Barungi was named Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Duties, lauded for her activism against land grabbing. Ephraim Kamuntu, a former Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, is now serving as a Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, bringing decades of governance experience.

Dr. Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed Kisuule was appointed as Senior Presidential Advisor on Middle East Affairs, a role that leverages his diplomatic background to strengthen Uganda’s international relations in that region. Meanwhile, Kiiza Ali, a retired Major General from the UPDF Air Force, will offer his military expertise as Senior Presidential Advisor on Air Force matters.

Mafabi David Kenneth, an advocate for Pan-Africanism and regional integration, retains his advisory role on Political Affairs. Hajji Abdul Nadduli continues his work in political mobilization, contributing insights from his long-standing public service career. Tony Owana, known for his deep understanding of Uganda’s historical records, was appointed Presidential Advisor on NRA Archives.

Other key figures retained or appointed include Richard Muhinda as Senior Presidential Advisor on Public Service Matters and Ssebunya Robert as Senior Presidential Advisor on Buganda Matters, where he focuses on cultural documentation. Lt. Col. Anthony Kyakabale will advise on reconciliation, while John Arimpa Kigyagi takes on the environment portfolio, emphasizing sustainability and climate action.

Florence Mutyabule remains focused on poverty alleviation in the Busoga sub-region, a crucial effort for equitable development. Monica Azuba Ntege continues her advisory work, drawing on her experience as a former Minister of Works. Dr. Beatrice Wabudeya returns as Senior Presidential Advisor on Veterinary Services, promoting animal health and agricultural progress.

New additions also include Nakayenga Resty Kiguli as Senior Presidential Advisor for Underprivileged Youth and Gertrude Njuba Norah, a respected bush war veteran, as Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs and Lands. Brig. Jacob Asiimwe joins the advisory team as a Senior Presidential Assistant, offering additional support and insight from a military perspective.

Together, these appointments reflect President Museveni’s strategy to surround himself with a blend of experience, institutional memory, and sectoral expertise to address Uganda’s multifaceted challenges while continuing to push for national development and unity.
