Fighting Corruption Starts with Us!! SHACU Chief Tells Police Investigators

Must read

This morning at the Uganda Police Training Facility in Kikandwa, the Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), Brigadier General Henry Isoke, delivered a powerful lecture to senior police officers. These officers came from different departments, including Criminal Investigations, Professional Standards, and the Canine Unit. The main message of his speech was clear: the police are the first line of defense against corruption, and their integrity is key to public safety and justice.

Brig. Gen Isoke reminded the officers that being a police investigator is not just a job—it is a responsibility that shapes the nation. He stressed that when corruption finds a place within the police force, it shakes the foundation of justice and damages the trust that citizens have in law enforcement.

In his address, Gen Isoke called on the officers to be dedicated, honest, and selfless in their service. He urged them to improve the public image of the Police Force by leading by example and staying true to their mission. “If we are clean, corruption can easily be defeated,” he said passionately, reminding them that their actions carry great weight in society.

He also brought attention to President Yoweri Museveni’s continuous call for integrity among public servants. Gen Isoke explained the four core principles of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM): Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Social-Economic Transformation, and Democracy. He encouraged the officers to embrace these values in their daily work.

Brig. Isoke praised General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, for his strong and consistent fight against corruption within the military. He said the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) is now a trusted and respected institution in the region, thanks to their clean and disciplined image.

The SHACU chief also took time to thank the Inspector General of Police and the Director of Criminal Investigations for organizing the training. He said such programs are important because they help officers understand the right values and ideological grounding needed to fight corruption.

He ended his presentation by encouraging teamwork between SHACU and the Uganda Police. According to him, winning the fight against corruption requires all anti-corruption agencies
