The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has notified the Uganda Police Force of its intention to hold a peaceful procession to the office of the Chief Justice on September 14, 2026, as the party pushes for the release on medical bail of Dr. Kizza Besigye and lawyer Erias Lukwago.
In a letter dated September 7, 2026, and addressed to the Inspector General of Police, PFF Deputy Secretary General Oketto Kennedy said the party plans to deliver a petition to the Chief Justice over what it described as the continued denial of bail on medical grounds to the two opposition figures.
According to the notice, the procession will begin at 11:00am from the PFF headquarters on Plot 6, Katonga Road, Nakasero, in Kampala. The party says its members will proceed peacefully to the office of the Chief Justice to present their concerns.
PFF said the planned procession is intended to draw attention to what it considers an issue of justice, compassion and respect for the rule of law. The party has also called for cooperation with the police to ensure that the procession takes place safely and peacefully.
The notification comes amid continued attention on the legal cases involving Besigye and Lukwago, with their supporters raising concerns about their health and calling for consideration of bail on medical grounds.
In its letter, PFF said it was looking forward to further engagement with the police to facilitate the planned procession. The notice was received by the Uganda Police Force on September 8, according to a handwritten acknowledgement on the document.
The planned demonstration is expected to attract attention from opposition supporters and other members of the public, particularly because of the prominent figures at the centre of the petition.
PFF has maintained that its action is not intended to cause disruption but to peacefully present its concerns to the country’s top judicial leadership. The party is now expected to mobilise its supporters ahead of the September 14 procession while engaging security authorities over arrangements for the event.
The procession is set to start at 11:00am from Katonga Road, with the party expected to carry its petition to the Chief Justice as it seeks what it describes as justice and compassion for Besigye and Lukwago.
