On Wednesday, Biara Emmanuel Wepukhulu, who wants to become the Member of Parliament for Bulambuli County under the NRM party, welcomed Professor Gilbert Bukenya, the former Vice President of Uganda, to his home in Buyaga Town Council. Many leaders from Bulambuli and the Bugisu region came together for this special event to support people in need and protect the environment.
The main activity of the day was a tree planting event at the Bunambutye Resettlement Camp. This camp is home to people who lost their homes due to landslides in Bududa and Bulambuli. The area is dry and has many environmental problems, so planting trees is very important. The goal is to make the environment better, provide shade, and help the land recover.
Children living in the camp have already planted more than 200 trees. This shows their strong commitment to protecting the environment. However, there are challenges. A 13-year-old girl, Ever Namataka, said, “Trees are withering and end up dying because all our fellow children residing in Phase II do not have readily available water.” This shows that clean and available water is needed to help the trees survive and grow.
The event also showed how partnerships can help. The Rotary Club gave Shs100 million worth of relief items to the landslide victims, and the Welsh government also donated items worth Shs49 million. These acts of kindness are helping many families and show how working together makes a big difference.
Trees were also planted at Nabongo Secondary School, where Emmanuel Wepukhulu studied for his UCE. This shows how involving the community, including schools, in planting trees can teach people to care for the environment and help create a better future.
After the activities, Emmanuel Wepukhulu hosted a dinner at his home. Supporters of the NRM came together to share a meal and celebrate the day’s success. It was a moment of unity, showing that people working together can bring about real change.
During the dinner, Professor Gilbert Bukenya publicly supported Emmanuel Wepukhulu’s political plans. In front of a large crowd, he praised Emmanuel for his leadership and urged the people of Bulambuli to support him. He said that young leaders like Emmanuel, who care about their people and the environment, are the future of the country.
This support from Professor Bukenya has raised Emmanuel Wepukhulu’s popularity and added strength to his campaign. His close relationship with important national leaders brings attention and respect to the local projects he is involved in. With this support, Emmanuel is now in a better position to help his community and bring more positive change to Bulambuli.
