Police in Kawempe have impounded four vehicles that were dangerously loaded and headed towards West Nile and South Sudan. The vehicles, bearing registration numbers SSD 521 BH, UA 740K, SSD 749 BN, and SSD 564 BE, were intercepted last night following a tip-off from a concerned community member.

According to authorities, the vehicles were stopped and taken to the police station in Kawempe, where they are currently being held. The drivers of the trucks are expected to appear in court soon on charges related to dangerous loading — a serious traffic offense that can lead to road crashes and loss of life.
Police praised the alert individual who reported the vehicles. “We thank the community member who shared this information with us. Such cooperation is key to ensuring road safety and preventing possible disasters,” said a police spokesperson.
Dangerous loading, especially overloading, is a growing concern on Uganda’s roads. It puts too much pressure on the vehicle’s tyres, which can easily lead to tyre bursts, loss of control, and even fatal crashes. Police reminded all drivers to follow traffic laws and avoid overloading their vehicles, warning that the risks are not just legal, but also life-threatening.
“This kind of carelessness not only endangers the driver but also passengers, pedestrians, and other road users,” the statement emphasized.
As road traffic increases across the country, especially along busy trade routes like those heading to West Nile and South Sudan, the police say they will continue their operations to catch offenders and promote safer roads for everyone.

Ugandans are being urged to take road safety seriously. Working together — the public and law enforcement — can make a real difference in saving lives and protecting property.
