Police in Lugazi, Buikwe District, have arrested a 28-year-old police officer attached to Lugazi Central Police Station over allegations of aggravated defilement involving a 16-year-old girl.
The suspect has been identified as No. 68259 Police Constable Ssebabi Ismail, who is attached to Lugazi CPS and resides at the Lugazi Police Barracks in Lugazi Municipality.
According to a police incident report, the alleged offence occurred between about 11:00pm on August 18 and 5:00am on August 19, 2026, at the Lugazi Police Barracks.
Police said the girl, who was working as a housemaid in Mukono District, was reportedly chased away by her employer on August 18 and decided to travel back to Sironko District.
On her way, an unidentified Good Samaritan boda boda rider reportedly gave her a lift to Lugazi and directed her towards Lugazi Police Station.
As she approached the station, she allegedly met Ssebabi, who asked about her situation. The officer reportedly offered her accommodation for the night and promised to provide transport the following morning.
According to the police report, Ssebabi allegedly took the girl to his residence within the police barracks, where he is accused of forcing her into sexual acts during the night.
At around 5:00am, the officer allegedly took the girl to a nearby stage and left her there. She reportedly remained stranded until stage operators came to her assistance.
The stage operators later reportedly took her to the police barracks chairperson, who helped bring the matter to the attention of authorities.
Ssebabi was subsequently arrested, and police opened a case of aggravated defilement under Lugazi Police CRB 357/2026.
Police said statements have been recorded and the victim has undergone a medical examination as investigations continue.
The suspect remains accused and has not been convicted. The allegations are subject to further investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.
