Uganda has taken an important step toward ensuring peaceful and fair elections in 2026. Leaders from the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU), together with officials from the Electoral Commission, have officially launched a national campaign called “National Mobilisation for Peaceful, Free, Fair, and Credible 2026 Elections.”

The event brought together leaders from different faiths and the country’s top election officials. They all agreed on one goal making sure the 2026 elections are not only held successfully but also in a peaceful and credible manner that reflects the true will of the people.

Both the IRCU and the Electoral Commission emphasized the importance of unity, honesty, and respect during the election period. They pledged to work together to educate citizens, promote non-violence, and encourage peaceful participation in the democratic process.

“We want Ugandans to understand that elections are not about fighting or creating division,” one religious leader said. “They are about choosing leaders in a peaceful and respectful way.”

The Electoral Commission also assured the public of their commitment to transparency and fairness. They promised to improve voter education, ensure a clean voter register, and respond to complaints without bias.

This joint effort comes at a time when the country is preparing early for the 2026 general elections. With this strong message of peace and cooperation, many Ugandans are hopeful that the upcoming elections will be conducted in an atmosphere of calm, respect, and national unity.

The campaign is expected to reach communities across the country through churches, mosques, media, and local leaders. It is a call for every Ugandan young and old, rural and urban to play a role in promoting peace and protecting democracy.
