“We’ve Begun the Fight Against Self-Seekers” CID to Museveni

Must read

The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) has officially responded to President Yoweri Museveni’s powerful message condemning election malpractice within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). In a clear and firm statement, the CID assured the President and the country that law enforcement agencies have launched strong anti-crime actions targeting individuals accused of tampering with the NRM primary elections.

“I want to assure you that the state agencies of Uganda have started the necessary anti-crime actions against the self-seekers, President Museveni,” read the CID’s response, echoing the President’s own language and determination.

This response follows a passionate address by President Museveni on July 21, 2025, where he decried the corruption and dishonesty that have crept into the NRM primaries. He expressed deep concern over people he described as “self-seekers” — individuals more interested in power than principles — who have tried to manipulate internal party processes through fraud, bribery, and violence.

Museveni revealed that eight people from different districts — including Mayuge, Buyende, Kapchorwa, Pader, Oyam, Rwampara, Kareenga, and Mbarara — have already been arrested for allegedly altering vote results during tallying. He stressed that these arrests are only the beginning, and investigations into other cases of electoral misconduct are actively underway.

In direct support of the President’s position, the CID’s confirmation gives weight to the seriousness with which the government is approaching the issue. Their response signals that the President’s call for justice will not be ignored and that the security forces are ready to clean up the NRM’s internal election processes.

The CID’s reassurance to the President also serves as a warning to anyone who may have been involved in election fraud. It shows a united front between Uganda’s leadership and law enforcement agencies in protecting the integrity of the party and the democratic processes within it.

Meanwhile, President Museveni urged citizens and party members to report any cases of violence, bribery, or tampering with registers. He also announced the formation of a strong legal team to handle petitions and complaints related to the primaries, promising a clean-up of the NRM and continued protection of the rights and interests of all Ugandans.

With the CID’s clear commitment and the President’s firm leadership, a message has been sent across the country — election cheating will not be tolerated, and those responsible will be held accountable.
