Just In!! Uganda’s Electrician Arrested Over Stealing Four Electricity Poles

Must read

Police in Luweero District have arrested a 26-year-old electrician accused of vandalizing power lines and making illegal electricity connections. The incident happened on August 10, 2025, around midnight, when unknown suspects cut and stole wires from four electricity poles in Kireku Parish, Kikyusa Subcounty.

In Ssenyomo Zone A, one resident experienced a sudden blackout and initially thought it was normal load shedding. But by the next morning, churchgoers spotted electric wires lying on the ground. Residents quickly confirmed that four poles had been vandalized and reported the matter to Kikyusa Subcounty Police Station.

Investigations led police to arrest Katamba Charles, an electrician living in Kiwanguzi Zone, Kireku Parish. Officers discovered that he had made illegal electricity connections to his own home and several neighbouring houses. A search of his residence turned up stolen electric wires believed to have been taken from the vandalized poles.

Police say this case highlights a bigger problem of power infrastructure vandalism, which causes blackouts, damages equipment, and puts lives at risk. Authorities are urging the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities near electrical installations—especially people working without proper identification, using unofficial vehicles, operating at odd hours, or carrying suspicious tools.

The public is also advised not to hire uncertified electricians and to report any illegal electricity connections to the police or to the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL). Staying vigilant, officials say, is the best way to protect vital power infrastructure from further attacks.
