M7’s Brother Takes Gen Muhoozi’s Orders, Withdraws from CEC Position

Must read

Sedrack Nzaire, the younger brother of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has reportedly bowed to the orders of the President’s son and CDF, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, by withdrawing from contesting the position of Vice Chairman for NRM Western Region.

Recently, Gen Muhoozi posted on his X page stating that Nzaire had not sought his permission to contest the position and instructed him to step aside. However, Nzaire initially refuted the claims, insisting that he did not need anyone’s permission to stand for the role.

This marks the second time in recent years that a Museveni family member has withdrawn from a political race just days before an election. In the 2021 general elections, Toyota Museveni withdrew from an MP seat only hours before the vote, which was later taken by Hon. Sam Kutesa’s daughter.

The sudden withdrawal of Nzaire adds to ongoing discussions about internal family influence within NRM and the role of Gen Muhoozi in guiding political decisions ahead of key elections. Observers note that such interventions reflect the strong influence of the Museveni family in Uganda’s political landscape, particularly within the ruling party.
