Makerere University is set to host the 10th National Conference on Communications (NCC2026), bringing together researchers, ICT professionals, academics, industry players and government representatives to discuss how innovation and technology can contribute to Uganda’s development.
The two-day conference will take place from September 24 to 25, 2026, at the Makerere University Yusifu Lule Central Teaching Facility in Kampala. The event will be held under the theme, “Accelerating Market-Driven Innovation for Uganda’s Development.”
NCC2026 will provide a platform for experts and other stakeholders to share new research, exchange ideas and discuss practical solutions to some of the challenges facing Uganda. The conference is also expected to create opportunities for participants to connect research and ideas with real-world innovation and business opportunities.
The organisers say the conference will focus on encouraging market-driven innovation, where research and technological ideas can move beyond academic discussions and be developed into practical solutions that respond to the needs of communities, businesses and the country at large.
Researchers and ICT professionals will have an opportunity to present their work, while academics, government officials and industry players will engage in discussions on emerging technologies and their potential contribution to Uganda’s economic and social development.
The conference is expected to strengthen cooperation between academia, government and the private sector. Such collaboration can help researchers better understand the needs of the market while giving businesses and government institutions access to new ideas, research and technological solutions.
NCC2026 is being supported by Makerere University, the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, and the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC). Their involvement highlights the importance of partnerships between educational institutions, government and the communications sector in promoting innovation.
As Uganda continues to expand its digital economy and invest in technology, the conference is expected to provide an important space for stakeholders to examine how research, ICT and innovation can be turned into practical opportunities.
