A fire outbreak hit a workshop in Ntinda, Nakawa Division, today, 8th September 2025, at around 1:20 pm, leaving behind destruction and loss of property. According to police, five vehicles were completely burnt beyond repair, while two others were partially damaged. Several machines inside the workshop were also destroyed in the blaze.
The Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services, working hand in hand with engineers from Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL), quickly responded to the scene. Their swift action helped to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby businesses and residential areas.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are already underway to establish the exact cause of the fire.
While no injuries or fatalities were reported, the incident has raised concerns about fire safety and preparedness in workshops and garages across the city. Police have urged business owners to strengthen fire safety measures, including installing extinguishers and ensuring proper wiring systems, to reduce the risk of similar occurrences.
The affected workshop owners are now counting losses as authorities work to determine what sparked the fire. For now, the quick intervention of police and UEDCL engineers prevented what could have been a much bigger tragedy in Ntinda.
