Must read

Gulu Police officers have arrested one of their own after he allegedly robbed two civilians at gunpoint in Forest Ward, Pece Laroo Division, on the evening of October 6, 2025. The incident occurred around 7:40 PM, and the suspect has been identified as PC Okello Isaac, a member of the Flying Squad Unit attached to Gulu CPS and a resident of the police barracks.

The first victim, Patrick Kibwola, a 23-year-old DJ from Pece Central, was walking home near the NFA offices when he was confronted by the officer armed with a gun. Under threat, Kibwola surrendered 3,500 shillings and his Itel button phone. He was then ordered to leave the scene quickly.

Shortly afterward, Akena Lawrence, a 36-year-old teacher from Pece Acoyo, parked his motorcycle, a Bajaj UDY 302J, by the roadside when the same officer appeared and forced him at gunpoint to hand over the motorcycle keys. Akena immediately fled and reported the incident to other police officers at the station.

The Flying Squad, led by D/AIP Joseph Tukei, responded quickly and arrested PC Okello Isaac at the scene. Officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, two loaded magazines, a police inner jacket, the stolen motorcycle, the phone, and the cash from the suspect. Investigations revealed that the officer had consumed alcohol and appeared somewhat drunk at the time, while wearing civilian clothes with a police inner jacket. Fortunately, neither victim was physically harmed.

Police confirmed that the crime scene will be revisited, and the suspect will be interrogated once sober. Statements from the victims have been recorded, and inquiries are ongoing. The case has raised serious concern about police conduct and integrity in Gulu City.
