Mukono Police, working closely with local defense teams, carried out two successful intelligence-led operations on October 7, 2025, targeting crime hotspots in Mukono Municipality. The first operation took place around 3:00 PM in Ntinda zone, Seeta ward, Goma Division. This mission was designed to address the growing number of aggravated robberies in the area, where criminals have been using pangas to attack homes, steal property, and injure residents. During the operation, 15 suspects were apprehended, seven of whom are wanted in connection with previous aggravated robbery cases. The police seized dangerous weapons, including pangas and knives, and recovered opium from the suspects and their hideouts.
Earlier the same day, around noon, Mukono Police conducted another intelligence-led operation in Bugujju Cell, Nsube Kauga Ward, Mukono Central Division. This operation, led by the Uganda Criminal Investigation Unit (UCU) and local area defense teams near Uganda Christian University Mukono campus, led to the arrest of Wodiya Edrine. Edrine was found in possession of opium, opium grinders, opium filters, opium wrappers, and Codeine syrup. He has been charged with possession of opium.
These operations are part of a wider police effort in Uganda to fight crime and drug abuse. Mukono Police have previously carried out raids that led to the arrest of habitual robbers and the recovery of stolen items and illegal drugs such as marijuana. Intelligence-led operations like these demonstrate a proactive approach by law enforcement, combining community collaboration with targeted policing to tackle crime where it is most prevalent. Such measures aim to make neighborhoods like Goma Division and Mukono Municipality safer for residents.
