The Uganda Police Force has confirmed the arrest of one of its own officers after a disturbing video went viral on social media showing a man assaulting a female pump attendant at a Shell petrol station.
According to a statement shared by police spokesperson @mkituuma on X (formerly Twitter), the incident happened on 7th October 2025, and investigations quickly identified the suspect as ASP Nsiima, a serving police officer.
The video, which circulated widely online, sparked public outrage as it showed the male client, later confirmed to be a police officer, violently attacking the helpless female worker. Many Ugandans demanded immediate action and justice for the victim.
In response, the police launched a swift investigation to verify the identity of the suspect and circumstances surrounding the attack. Preliminary findings confirmed that the officer involved was indeed ASP Nsiima, who has since been arrested and detained.
“The officer has been apprehended and detained in police custody,” the police statement read. “He will be brought to account as soon as investigations are complete.”
Police officials also revealed that they have reached out to both the victim and eyewitnesses to record their statements and provide support where necessary. Authorities assured the public that justice will be served and that such acts of violence will not be tolerated within the force.
“We condemn this behaviour as it contravenes our disciplinary code,” the police added, emphasizing that law enforcement officers must always act with professionalism, respect, and integrity.
The incident has reignited debate on police conduct and accountability, with members of the public calling for tougher action against officers who misuse their authority. Civil rights activists have also urged police leadership to ensure that the female victim receives medical care and full justice.
Meanwhile, several social media users praised the police for taking quick action against their own, saying it shows a growing commitment to internal discipline and public trust. Others, however, demanded that the outcome of the investigation be made public to discourage similar behaviour in the future.
As investigations continue, the Uganda Police Force has assured citizens that no officer is above the law, and that disciplinary and criminal measures will be taken once the case is concluded. The public now awaits to see the outcome of this high-profile case that has once again tested the image of the force.
