14%Of Educated Class Pay Bribe To Access Govt Serves- UBOS Survey Report Shows

The Uganda National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) an independent body responsible for conducting and disseminating National Statistics and Data has revealed that 14% of the educated class in Uganda pay bribes to have access to jobs and other related government services, Spyreports has established.

This shocking news which left corruption fighting institutions like police,Courts of law, IGG among others was released during the National Governance,Peace and Security survey at UBOS headquarters in Kampala. The report however shows that despite the elite being behind payment of bribes, 57% were also aware of Government’s efforts to fight corruption, an increase from 54% in 2017. “The rate of corruption is still high especially among the elites. We must increase public sensitization in fighting corruption. We must have zero corruption in Uganda,” Says Dr Chris Mukiza the Executive Director of UBOS during his remarks.

The report further shows apart from corruption,82% of the population had trust in government for protecting them and their property which was an increase from 72% in 2017. West Nile has the highest percentage of trust in government to provide security which stands at 72%. However Busoga region still thinks has little trust in government when it comes to providing security.

The report further indicated that 75% of the population trust government institutions such public schools, Public hospitals and clinics, Uganda police, Courts of law, Parliament,Public service among others. However it is indicated in the report that the population has lost trust in Mayor and LC 3 leaders and public service. “The public trust in public service has declined from 54% in 2017 to 49% in 2025/25 and from 62% to 59% respectively,” Says the report adding it is caused to corruption and bribery. The report shows that leaders have increased to listen to their voters.

MPs have increased from 32% to 35% in listening to their voters. It is also indicated that politicians have responded to their voters issues,concerns and needs.”Local Authorities have increased in delivering services to the grass root population which used not be the case,” shows the report. It has been also captured in the report that Livestock/ Animals are mostly stolen followed by money.

The report further shows that government has increased security where by the population feels safe walking at night. “60% of the total population feels safe while walking alone at night. “West Nile population feels safe while walking alone at night with 90.4%”show the report.However it is indicated that there is a lot of insecurity in Busoga and Kampala where people feel unsecure while walking alone at night. The report also appreciated security forces while addressing violence issues especially among children and women. It also indicated that 81% of Ugandans are living happy.
