Passengers Warned!! Speak Up or Lose Your Life, Traffic Officers Tell Bus Travelers

Must read

Traffic officers have launched a fresh campaign this season to ensure the safety of passengers in Passenger Service Vehicles (PSVs). The initiative aims to educate passengers about their rights and empower them to speak up whenever they notice drivers breaking traffic rules or endangering lives.

SP Kananura Michael, one of the officers leading the effort, said passengers must put their safety first. She urged commuters not to stay silent when witnessing reckless driving, over-speeding, or other violations that could cause accidents. “Choose safety above everything. If something doesn’t feel right, speak up. Do not be intimidated — it is your life, not anyone else’s,” she said.

The campaign involves traffic officers boarding buses and minibuses to guide passengers on how to identify and report unsafe behavior. They explain that even minor signs of recklessness, if ignored, can lead to major accidents and loss of life.

Officers emphasized that many passengers often hesitate to speak up because they fear offending the driver or facing backlash. The new campaign seeks to change this mindset by showing that safety is a shared responsibility, and passengers have the legal right to insist on it.

SP Kananura Michael noted that passengers play a crucial role in road safety. She explained that their vigilance could prevent collisions, save lives, and encourage drivers to follow traffic regulations more strictly.

During interactions, officers also educate passengers on practical steps to take, such as reporting dangerous driving to authorities, noting the vehicle registration, and ensuring they communicate clearly without confrontation. These simple actions, officers say, can make a significant difference.

The campaign has already received positive feedback from the public. Many passengers expressed relief at being given guidance on how to handle unsafe situations. They said this initiative helps them feel more protected while commuting.

Officers confirmed that the road safety drive will continue throughout the season, targeting busy transport hubs and bus routes. The ultimate goal, they said, is to foster a culture where passengers feel confident to act whenever their safety is at risk, making public transport safer for everyone.
