Police Probe How 34 Pupils’ Exam Scripts Were Left Behind

Must read

Police in Koboko District have launched investigations into a strange incident involving missing Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results for 34 pupils of Bamure Primary School in Ludara Sub-county. The case, now recorded at Koboko Police Station under a General Enquiry File, has raised serious concern among education officials, parents, and the community.

The matter was reported by the District Inspector of Schools, Ms. Rita Harriet, after the release of the 2025 PLE results by UNEB. While reviewing the district’s results through the official portal, she discovered that all candidates from Bamure Primary School had no marks for Integrated Science. Because of the missing subject marks, every pupil’s results were incomplete and marked with the letter “X,” meaning their final grades could not be processed.

Following the discovery, the Inspector of Schools instructed the school’s headteacher, Mr. Waku Zabair Abiriga, to write a formal complaint to UNEB. He was asked to attach proof showing that the pupils had indeed sat for the Integrated Science paper. The complaint was submitted as required, and the school waited for feedback from UNEB.

However, before any response was received, a surprising discovery was made. The headteacher reportedly found a sealed UNEB PLE answer script envelope inside a blue metallic box in his office. The box is said to be one that UNEB officials usually use during examination periods to temporarily store answer scripts before they are transported for marking. The envelope was suspected to contain the Integrated Science scripts for the candidates.

This finding immediately raised alarm, and the matter was reported to police. Officers visited the school, examined the scene, and recovered the sealed envelope as evidence. The crime scene was documented by the Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO) together with other officers under the command of the District Police Commander, SP Masereka Michael. Statements from key witnesses have also been recorded.

Preliminary findings suggest that the Integrated Science answer scripts for Bamure Primary School may not have been submitted for marking, which could explain why all 34 pupils have missing marks. How the envelope remained at the school instead of reaching UNEB is now the main focus of investigations.

Police say inquiries are still ongoing to establish who was responsible and whether there was negligence or any wrongdoing. Meanwhile, the affected pupils and their families remain anxious, hoping the issue will be resolved quickly so the learners can receive their rightful results.
