The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) an independent institution responsible for conducting ,Producing and disseminating National Statistics has Urged to all Cultural Insititutions across the Country to produce Statistics that will the international standards, Spyreports has learnt. The serious warning which was adhired to cultural Insititutions was issued by UBOS Deputy Executive Director Dr Vicent Fred Ssenono during the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)between Iteso and Lango Cultural Insititutions at UBOS headquarters based in Kampala.

Dr Ssenono says that producing statistics is not mere counting of figures but some procedures must be followed to have them produced. “The statistics you are going to produce must meet international standards and must be accepted to be used,” he says. He further Urged the Cultural Insititutions to ensure that the statistics they produce must reflect the performance and distribution of resources around their Insititutions.
“PLE results are out your statistics must show you how many students pasted in Lango sub region, how many students have dropped out of schools and even should show people have benefited from Parish Development model among others,” He sounds. He added that statistics should help Insititutions to identify policy gaps and advocate for development. “Statistics should show the level of poverty in Iteso or Lango Sub regions, youth unemployment and how to deal with such issues,” he says.

Dr Ssenono also says the collaboration that the Bureau is entering with Insititutions today will guide in harmonizing Statistical concepts and methodologies, ensuring data consistency and accuracy through reconciliation,coordinating data collection to reduce duplication,promoting data sharing and collaboration among stakehilders and strengthening Statistical capacity and quality across different institutional structure.
Prof.William Okuru who represented Iteso Cultural Assures UBOS of their full commitment and will meet all their MOU terms. “We have access to the grassroot and collecting data will not be a problem,” he says adding that the institution also has a good relationship with District Statisticians who will be helping them in data collection.
