Police in Kampala arrested more than 100 suspects during a series of coordinated operations across the city. The actions took place on 23rd and 24th February 2026, targeting areas known for criminal activity, including Mukwano Roundabout, Railway Line, and 6th Street under Kabalagala Police Division; Zana Parish in Makindye-Ssabagabo under Katwe Police Division; Valley Zone in Salaama; and several neighborhoods under Nsangi Police Division such as Nakasozi, Kimbejja, Magwa-Mpangala, Kisozi, Nakiragala, Nagalabi, and Sumba.
The operations focused on crime hotspots and locations linked to criminal planning, aiming to curb issues like narcotics abuse, mugging, petty robberies, and motorcycle theft. Police officers worked systematically to disrupt criminal networks and prevent further offenses.
A total of 109 suspects were taken into custody and are currently undergoing screening, with court proceedings pending. Several motorcycles and number plates suspected to be stolen were also recovered, helping to cut down on illegal activities involving these items.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer of Kampala Metropolitan Police, said the operations were part of a sustained effort to enhance public safety and reduce crime across the metropolitan area.
Local residents welcomed the police crackdown, describing it as a relief for communities long affected by crime. The officers’ presence and targeted approach have strengthened confidence in law enforcement’s ability to maintain order.
KMP South emphasized that these operations will continue, with the aim of making Kampala a safer city for everyone. Authorities reiterated that swift and decisive action will be taken against anyone threatening public safety.
By targeting criminal hotspots and systematically dismantling networks, the police are sending a strong message that illegal activities will not be tolerated in the city.
Through these proactive measures, Kampala Metropolitan Police hope to deter crime, safeguard communities, and ensure that the city remains secure for residents and visitors alike.
