Mabira traffic Police have registered a fatal accident that occurred at around 7:40 a.m. on April 9, 2026, at Kinoni along the Jinja-Kampala highway in Buikwe District. The crash involved three vehicles: a white Isuzu ELF (UA050BZ), a white Toyota Hiace (UBQ729D), and a white Toyota Hiace PSV (UBR511N). The incident resulted in multiple fatalities and serious injuries.

Police reports indicate that the Isuzu ELF, driven by 30-year-old Mpandi Paul from Namawojjolo, Mukono District, was traveling from Kampala when it reportedly developed brake failure while descending a straight slope at Kinoni. The vehicle crossed into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with the Toyota Hiace UBQ729D, killing its driver on the spot. The Isuzu then hit the rear of the PSV, pushing it into a trench before overturning on the side of vehicles coming from Jinja.

The victims have been identified as Oguta David Junior, 45, from Bugembe Jinja; Kamale Badru, 30, from Kaleirwe Kiibe Zone, Kampala; Sseluwagi Yusuf, 45, from Busia; Mugenyi Emmanuel, 30, from Entebbe; Kyomugisha Shivani, 19, from Kilyowa, Buikwe District; Musoke Medieval, 40, from Mutundwe, Kampala; and Nakibule Flavia, 27, from Busia. All were passengers in the Toyota Hiace UBQ729D. Police confirmed that two male adults, including the driver, died immediately.

The injured victims were rushed to Kawolo Hospital, and two unidentified bodies were taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem. The driver of the Isuzu ELF, Mpandi Paul, is in police custody as investigations continue.

Spokesperson Butoto Hellen of the Ssezibwa Region noted that inquiries are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash and hold responsible parties accountable. Police are urging motorists to exercise caution, particularly on steep slopes and busy highways, to prevent similar tragedies.
