Police in Nateete have successfully arrested two suspects linked to a series of violent panga robberies that have been troubling residents of Mutundwe in Kampala District. The arrests mark a major step forward in ongoing efforts to improve safety in the area, especially for boda boda riders who have increasingly become targets of armed criminals operating at night.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on 10th April 2026 at about 1:00 a.m. in Kweeba Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Rubaga Division. It is alleged that three men armed with pangas and sticks set up an illegal roadblock in the area during the night. The suspects reportedly stopped a boda boda rider who was carrying two passengers and forced them to lie down while demanding money from them.
The victims were left in a frightening situation as the armed men threatened them and attempted to rob them. However, their situation changed when police officers who were on routine patrol responded quickly after receiving information about the attack. The officers moved in swiftly and managed to intercept the suspects before they could escape the scene.
During the operation, two suspects were arrested while one managed to flee. The arrested individuals have been identified as Engulu William, a 37-year-old private security guard, and Mutabazi Paul, aged 21, a resident of Kabaawo Zone. Police confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspect and are also investigating whether the arrested individuals are connected to other similar robberies in the area. Security patrols have since been increased in Mutundwe and surrounding zones to deter further criminal activity and reassure residents.
Speaking on behalf of the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), SP Kawala Racheal praised the quick response of the officers involved and urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious movements in their communities. Investigations are ongoing as police continue efforts to dismantle the group behind the attacks.
