Easter Security Tightened! Kampala Police Crack Down on Crime, 100 Arrested

Kampala Metropolitan Police have stepped up security measures ahead of the Easter holiday, carrying out intensive patrols and intelligence-led operations across the region. Between the evening of April 1st and the early hours of April 2nd, police conducted a series of coordinated operations aimed at disrupting criminal activities and ensuring the safety of residents.

In Entebbe, officers targeted Kasenyi and Nakiwogo, arresting 23 suspects. Mukono saw operations in Kawoola, Katoogo, Takajjunge, and Kubiri, leading to the arrest of 36 individuals suspected of involvement in unlawful activities. Old Kampala Police focused on the New Taxi Park and Kakajo, detaining 24 suspects, while Katwe Division’s efforts in St. Augustine Zone resulted in 14 arrests. Kira Division conducted similar operations in Mulawa, Kitukutwe, and Kiwologoma in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, arresting 11 suspects.

During these operations, authorities recovered various items, including dry marijuana leaves, rolled sticks, and fresh plant materials, signaling a crackdown on drug-related activities. All 100 suspects are currently in police custody and will face court proceedings in due course.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police emphasized that these operations are part of an ongoing effort to maintain peace and safety in the city, particularly during the festive period. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, as police continue to strengthen security across the metropolitan area to ensure a safe and secure Easter celebration for everyone.
