Police in Kira Division have arrested a man suspected of being behind a series of robberies that have recently caused fear among residents of Kyaliwajjala and the surrounding areas. The suspect, identified as James Lumu, was arrested following investigations into a violent robbery that occurred earlier this week.

According to police, the investigations began after an incident that took place on the evening of June 16, 2026, at around 8:00 PM in Nabwojjo, Kyaliwajjala B Zone. During the attack, a 23-year-old man identified as Tenywa Daniel, a resident of Kiwanga in Mukono District, was reportedly assaulted with a blunt object before being robbed of his mobile phone.

Police say information gathered from witnesses and intelligence sources during the investigations pointed to James Lumu as one of the individuals allegedly involved in the robbery. Acting on the leads, officers conducted an operation on June 18, 2026, in the Kyaliwajjala Kapeera area, where the suspect was successfully tracked down and arrested.

The arrest has been welcomed by many residents who have been concerned about the rising cases of theft and violent robberies in the area. Authorities believe the suspect could be linked to other criminal activities that have been reported within Kira Division and neighboring communities.

James Lumu is currently being held in police custody as detectives continue their inquiries. Investigators are working to establish whether he acted alone or as part of a larger criminal group and to determine his possible involvement in other unsolved robbery cases.

Police have assured the public that operations against criminal gangs will continue and have urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing information that can help prevent crime and bring offenders to justice.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the arrest and said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
