Police at Katwe are holding three suspects in connection with possession of government stores and other items recovered during an operation conducted in Salaama, Makindye Division.
The suspects were arrested during a police operation carried out in the early hours of Thursday, June 11, 2026, following intelligence reports from members of the public. According to police, officers on patrol received information at around 2:00 a.m. that two men suspected of attacking residents using pangas were sleeping in a house located in Zikusooka Zone, Salaama, in Makindye Division, Kampala District.
Acting swiftly on the information, a team of police officers moved to the area and conducted an operation at the suspected residence. During the raid, three individuals were arrested. The suspects were identified as Muwanga George Makanga, Ahumuza Mashood, and Ishimwe Kethier. Police say the trio is currently being held as investigations continue into their alleged activities.
A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of several items that police consider important to the ongoing investigation. Among the items found were a backpack containing a toy gun, a metallic torch, a screwdriver, a sensor, a knife, and several test tubes. The recovered items have since been taken into police custody as exhibits.
More significantly, officers also recovered 10 rounds of live ammunition from the premises. The discovery has raised further concerns and prompted investigators to dig deeper into the suspects’ possible involvement in criminal activities and how they came into possession of the ammunition and other suspected government stores.
Police have emphasized that investigations are still ongoing and that the suspects will remain in custody pending further interrogation. Authorities are also working to establish the ownership and intended use of the recovered items, as well as determine whether the suspects are linked to other criminal incidents reported in the area.
The operation highlights the importance of public cooperation in fighting crime, as the arrests were made possible through information provided by vigilant residents. Police have encouraged members of the public to continue sharing information that can help law enforcement agencies prevent crime and ensure the safety of communities.
Police spokesperson SP Kawala Racheal confirmed the arrests and recovery of the exhibits, noting that more details will be provided as investigations progress.
