The National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) has today launched my identity Expo Symposium which will take place between 24th- 26 at NIRA head offices in Kololo in Kampala.
The Launch which took place at Kololo was graced by NIRA Executive Director Rosemary Kisembo.
The Symposium which will be for free is sponsored by several government institutions such as Bank of Uganda,NIRA, URA,NITA, KCCA,UCC,Vision Group, NSSF among others.
In her remarks, she revealed that 38.8m Ugandans totaling to 75% are registered with NIRA. “We are working around the clock to ensure that by 2030 the remaining 25% is also registered to meet the world standard where 100% of the total population is registered with us,” She says. She adds that my identity Is expo Symposium will help all identified Ugandans to reach free government services such as health care,Education ,Banking among others. “My identity will help the government to know who we are, where we stay,where we register among , where do we get death and Birth certificates,” She revealed. She also notes that my identity will also help NIRA to stop double registration of National IDs. “In the last National registration a total of 2.4m Ugandans tried to double register but were detected by the system and were flagged off,”She says
Mr Philip Wabulya the Director in charge of Risks and Strategy at Bank of Uganda says that my identity will help banks in fighting fraud and money laundering which is a big problem at most Banks. “It will also help Banks to know their clients especially people with the same names. “You find that people with the same names are complaining of a certain benefits but this time people with the same names will be having different identities which will help banks to know the right beneficiary,” He says. He further says the system will improve on stability and Trust on customers because Banks will have their full Identities. He further says my identity will protect government security like pension , Insurance among others.
