Police is investigating two separate fire outbreaks that occurred within the Kampala Metropolitan area on the 5th and 6th of May 2026, which led to destruction of property and left one person injured.
The first incident happened in the early hours of 6th May 2026 at around 2:30 am in Kinawataka Zone One, Mbuya One Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala District. The fire broke out at Jambula Boda Boda Stage and was first noticed by a boda boda rider. He quickly raised an alarm and informed nearby residents before alerting police at Kinawataka Police Station.
Police officers, together with the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services team, responded quickly to the scene. Their swift action helped to put out the fire before it could spread further to nearby wooden structures. Despite the effort, the fire destroyed one salon and two pork joints. The affected property is reported to belong to a man identified only as Edgar, the landlord of the premises.
Preliminary findings suggest that the fire was caused by a charcoal stove that had been left unattended in one of the pork joints. Authorities have urged the public to always ensure that open flames are fully extinguished after use to prevent similar accidents.
The second fire incident occurred earlier on 5th May 2026 at around 9:28 pm in Buloba Village, Wakiso District. Police received information about a fire outbreak at Sklar Timber Factory, which is owned by Nsubuga Grace, aged 36 years.
Investigations show that the fire is believed to have started from a workshop within the factory before spreading to the showroom and a nearby business known as Yungula Matha Stores. The fire caused extensive damage, destroying timber, furniture, tools, and other valuable property.
Preliminary reports point to an electrical fault, believed to have been caused by unstable power supply at the time, as the likely cause of the fire. Emergency teams from Buloba Police Station, supported by the Fire Brigade from Nateete, worked together to contain the blaze and stop it from spreading further.
During the incident, one person identified as Jacline Onzili, aged 25, sustained injuries and was quickly taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
The Uganda Police Force Fire Prevention and Rescue Services has since advised the public to be more careful with both open flames and electrical installations. Business owners and residents are encouraged to regularly check their electrical systems and ensure safe use of charcoal stoves and other heat sources.
Police have confirmed that investigations into both fire incidents are still ongoing, and further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
