The Uganda Electoral Commission is set to hold an important stakeholders’ meeting in Kalangala District this Friday, May 8, 2026. The meeting will take place at 8:00 AM at the District Council Hall and will officially launch the roadmap for the District Woman Member of Parliament (DWMP) by-election.
This process follows the sad death of MP-elect Hellen Nakimuli, whose passing created a vacancy in the constituency. The Electoral Commission says the meeting will help guide all participants on the legal steps, timelines, and requirements needed to ensure a smooth and fair election process.
According to Commission spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi, the engagement is designed to promote openness and transparency. He explained that political parties, religious leaders, civil society groups, and other key stakeholders have been invited to take part in the discussions. The goal is to make sure everyone understands the rules and expectations before the by-election begins.
The meeting will also bring together security officials and local leaders to help coordinate a peaceful and well-organized electoral process. This cooperation is expected to strengthen trust among communities and ensure that all activities are conducted in a fair environment.
