This morning, Deputy Director CID, D/SCP Beata Chelimo held a high-level meeting with Mr Apollo Africa, Head of the Interpol Regional Bureau, together with his team. The meeting focused on strengthening regional cooperation and improving collaboration in the fight against transnational crime.
The discussions mainly centred on key security challenges affecting the region, including cybercrime, counterterrorism, and the sharing of crime intelligence. Both sides emphasized the growing need for faster and more reliable information exchange to deal with criminals who operate across borders and use technology to evade detection.
A major point of focus was the improvement of INTERPOL’s I-24/7 communication system. This secure global police communications network allows law enforcement agencies in different countries to share critical information in real time. Strengthening this system was highlighted as an important step in improving coordinated responses to crime.
The meeting also discussed capacity building through training programs under the INTERPOL Global Academy. These training initiatives are aimed at improving the skills of law enforcement officers in areas such as digital investigations, intelligence gathering, and cross-border crime management. Officials noted that well-trained officers are essential in tackling increasingly complex criminal networks.
Both parties expressed commitment to deepening cooperation and ensuring that regional security agencies are better equipped to respond to emerging threats. The engagement was seen as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security partnerships and improve coordination between Uganda and international policing bodies in addressing modern security challenges.
