Police in Wakiso District are investigating a shocking case of burglary and theft that ended with a suspected thief having his arm chopped off during a violent confrontation in Kyengera Town Council.

The bizarre incident happened on the night of May 8, 2026, at around 9:20pm in Mungo A Cell, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District. The case was registered at Kyengera Police Station under CRB 161/26.

According to police reports, information about the incident was first received by ASP Muzahuura Ladan, the Officer in Charge of Kyengera Police Station, who immediately dispatched a team of officers to the scene to assess the situation and begin investigations.

The complainant was identified as Kanankulya Isak, a 47-year-old businessman and resident of Mungo A Cell. Reports indicate that unknown suspects allegedly broke into his home at an unknown time and gathered several household items, including a mattress, before preparing to take them away.

Police findings reveal that when Isak returned home, he reportedly found his property already tied up by the suspected thieves. Realizing that burglars had invaded his house, he allegedly decided to hide nearby while armed with a panga, waiting for the suspects to return.

It is alleged that when one of the suspects came back to continue carrying away the stolen property, a violent confrontation broke out. During the struggle, the homeowner reportedly used the panga and chopped off the suspect’s arm.

The injured suspect is said to have fled from the scene despite the serious injuries. Police officers reportedly followed a trail of blood stains for about 10 meters before the trail suddenly disappeared, suggesting the suspect may have escaped with the help of other people or managed to hide.

During the police examination of the scene, officers recovered a freshly cut human arm believed to belong to the suspect. A panga suspected to have been used in the incident was also recovered with what appeared to be blood stains on it.

Police documented the crime scene through photographs and notes before preserving the area for further examination. Statements from witnesses were also recorded as investigations continue.

Authorities say efforts are underway to identify and trace the injured suspect, while more inquiries are being carried out to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. More details are expected to follow as investigations progress.
