The Uganda Bureau of statistics (UBOS) an independent body responsible for conducting National Statistics has revealed that a total 4131000 million Ugandans comprising of 8.9% have remained in poverty or are chronically poor for the last three years beginning from 2023 to 2025 Spyreports has learnt. This shocking information was revealed during the release of Harmonization integrated survey at UBOS headquarters in Kampala.
The report shows that Eastern Uganda has now over taken Northern Uganda when it comes to poverty levels. According to the report, Eastern Uganda is leading with 16% totaling to 619650 people,followed by Northern Uganda with 14.9% totaling to 615519 people,Western with 3.6% totaling to 148716 and Central Buganda excluding Kampala has the lowest with 3.0% totaling to 123930 people. However the report indicates that 57.2% of Ugandans have never crossed to poverty levels in the last three years or waves. “3.0% of Ugandans moved out of poverty in the year 2024-25,” Says the report adding that 6.6% also got out of poverty in 2023-24 and 9.7% switched between poverty and non poor in the three years.

However it has been also captured in the report that 6.3% moved into poverty in 2023-24 and 8.2% also moved to poverty in 2024-25.
The report has further indicated that Female household heads have increased compared to males . The increase is by 2.8% from 64.3% in 2022 to 66.3% in 2025.
In Education sector, the report shows that 75.5% of Primary learners that is from P.1- 7 that were in school in 2020 were still in school by 2025 and 41.5% who were in secondary school in 2020 were still in school by 2025.
The report has further shown an increase in access to clean water and electricity where the proportion of people who accessed clean water increased by 8.2% that is from 70% in 2022 to 78.4% in 2025 and electricity access also shot up by 4.2% where by it increased from 25.5% in 2022 to 29.5% in 2025.

Banking sector also gained power where people from 15 years and above who accessed banking services increased by 2.7% from 10.7% in 2022 to 13.4% in 2025. People who also got bank accounts increased by 2.4% from 8.5% in 2022 to 10.9% in 2025.
