The Uganda Human Rights an independent body responsible for protecting and promoting Human Rights in Uganda has revealed that a total of 3.7 Million Ugandans Are Mentally unstable, Spyreports has learnt. This was revealed on Wednesday during the 28 launch of the State of human rights and freedom in Uganda, which was held at Hotel Protea in Kampala.
Mrs Hope Bagota, the Director Monitoring and Evaluation while reading the report said 1-4 Ugandans have mental issues which constitutes 12% of Total population.
“Mental issues are high on youth aged 18-30 years” she says adding that the majority of them are not in employment, Education and Training. She further revealed most of the youth have idol time and resort to taking alcohol,drugs such as Marijuana ,Kush,Shisha,Kuba among others which end up causing metal issues.
“Mental health issues have increased due to the variety of social determinants that include higher propensity for risk taking behaviors,rural urban migration,unemployment, and influence of social media,” reads part of the report. It is further indicated in UHRC report that Teso region has higher mental issues which stands at 16.4% and Ankole had the least at 8.8%. “At soroti Regional Referral Hospital,mental health facility reportedly handles 300-400 patients weekly reflecting a significant burden on available services,” Says report adding that most individuals are youth below the age of 35 years with the highest drug addicts followed by depression.
