Police have intensified operations against criminal activities in Kampala and surrounding areas after arresting 60 suspects during a series of night operations targeting known crime hotspots, criminal hideouts, and areas linked to street crime.

The operations were carried out on the nights of 7th and 8th July 2026 by Kampala Metropolitan Police in coordination with other security agencies as part of efforts to fight increasing cases of house break-ins, robberies, drug abuse, and other criminal activities affecting communities.

Police said the operations targeted areas that had been identified as black spots and locations where criminals were suspected to gather and plan illegal activities. The affected areas included Kiwempe and Kibati in Kansanga, Mutungo Zone 1 (Kunya), as well as Bajjo and Ntinda villages in Seeta, Mukono District.

In Kabalagala Police Division, officers arrested 30 suspects from a location believed to have been used as a base for planning criminal activities. The operation followed several complaints from residents about cases of house break-ins, simple robberies, and other forms of insecurity in Kiwempe, Kibati, and neighbouring areas.

The suspects were arrested on allegations of being a public nuisance and are currently undergoing screening by police. Authorities said the process is aimed at identifying individuals who may be involved in criminal activities while ensuring that innocent people are separated from those linked to offences.

In Seeta, Mukono District, police arrested 22 suspects from identified crime hotspots in Bajjo and Ntinda villages. Some of the suspects were reportedly found in possession of substances suspected to be opium and were charged over drug-related offences.

Preliminary investigations by police indicate that some of the suspects arrested in Seeta have links to crimes including phone snatching, robbery, and drug abuse, which have been a concern among residents in the area.

Meanwhile, another operation was conducted in Mutungo Zone 1, commonly known as Kunya, within Nakawa Division. During the operation, police arrested eight male suspects from known criminal hideouts associated with drug abuse and robbery. The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue before they are taken through the legal process.

Kampala Metropolitan Police said the operations are part of a wider strategy to dismantle criminal networks and improve security within the metropolitan area. Police emphasized that such operations will continue in different areas to prevent criminals from establishing bases and threatening the safety of residents.

The force has also called upon members of the public to continue providing timely and reliable information about suspicious activities in their communities. Police said cooperation between security agencies and citizens remains important in preventing crime and ensuring safer communities.
