Must read

Police have registered a major breakthrough in the investigation into the violent aggravated robbery that took place at Rafiki Gardens in Kiti A Cell, Nangabo Sub-county, Wakiso District. The operation has resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle believed to have been used during the attack.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the suspects have been identified as Michael Mutyaba and Paul Bazalanga. They were arrested during separate police operations that followed weeks of investigations into the robbery that happened on 14th July 2026.

During the operations, police recovered an AK-47 rifle, two loaded magazines containing 58 rounds of ammunition, and two camouflage uniforms. Investigators believe the uniforms were worn by the suspects while carrying out the robbery, and the recovered exhibits will play an important role in the ongoing investigations.

The robbery happened when a group of armed men attacked a beer delivery truck at Rafiki Gardens. The attackers reportedly assaulted the truck driver before turning their guns on other people at the scene. The manager of Rafiki Gardens was shot during the attack, while customers were robbed of their mobile phones and other valuables.

The criminals later fled the scene, prompting police to launch investigations and intelligence-led operations aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible. The latest arrests are being viewed as a significant step towards solving the case.

Police say investigations are still ongoing to track down and arrest the remaining members of the criminal group. Officers are also working to recover more exhibits that could be linked to the robbery.

The two suspects are currently being held in police custody. They are expected to appear before court on charges of aggravated robbery and other related offences once investigations are completed.

Police have thanked members of the public who have continued to provide information that has helped investigators make progress in the case. They encouraged anyone with additional information about the robbery or the remaining suspects to report to the nearest police station.

The latest development highlights the importance of cooperation between the public and security agencies in fighting crime. Police have assured the public that they remain committed to pursuing all those involved in the robbery until they are brought to justice.
