Uganda Airlines has presented its strategic growth plans to Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the national carrier seeks to strengthen its operations and expand its presence both within Uganda and across international markets.
The airline’s executive leadership team, led by Acting Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake, met Gen. Kainerugaba at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe on Monday, August 24, 2026. The meeting focused on the airline’s future plans, ongoing reforms and measures aimed at making Uganda Airlines more efficient and commercially sustainable.
The delegation included Chief Finance Officer Allan Joel Kyeyune, Acting Manager for Human Resource and Administration Anne Apio, and Acting Chief Commercial Officer Shakila Lamar Rahim.
During the briefing, the airline management outlined plans to improve the performance and utilization of its existing aircraft while expanding its international network. The carrier intends to add more routes from Entebbe to destinations in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, while also strengthening connections to key African regional hubs.
Uganda Airlines is also planning to introduce domestic services to improve air connectivity within the country and provide Ugandans with more options for travelling between different regions.
To cut costs and improve efficiency, the airline leadership said it is working towards bringing aircraft maintenance and ground handling services in-house. The move is expected to reduce reliance on external service providers while helping the airline build stronger internal capacity.
Training Ugandan aviation professionals is another key part of the strategy. The airline wants to develop local expertise that can support its operations and contribute to the growth of Uganda’s aviation industry.
The airline leadership stressed that continued support from the government and other stakeholders will be important in achieving the planned expansion and ensuring the carrier remains stable in the long term.
Gen. Kainerugaba welcomed the plans and commended the airline’s leadership for the progress made so far. He pledged his support, saying a strong national carrier is important for Uganda’s trade, regional integration and wider economic development.
The meeting comes amid ongoing structural changes at Uganda Airlines aimed at improving corporate governance, stabilizing daily operations and laying a stronger foundation for future commercial growth.
With plans to expand international routes, introduce domestic services, reduce operational costs and develop local aviation skills, Uganda Airlines is seeking to strengthen its position as a key player in Uganda’s transport and economic development.
