CID Director Tom Magambo Hosts Parliamentary Committee for Key Oversight Visit

Must read

The Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Tom Magambo, has welcomed the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs for an oversight visit at CID headquarters.

The committee, led by Chairperson Hon. Robinah Gureme Rwakoojo, visited the facility as part of its mandate to monitor the performance, operations, challenges, and resource needs of security and internal affairs institutions in Uganda.

During the engagement, lawmakers reviewed the work of CID, including its role in handling major investigations, strengthening detective services, and improving criminal investigations across the country. The visit provided an opportunity for members of Parliament to interact with CID leadership and understand areas where additional support may be required.

The oversight visit is part of Parliament’s routine engagements with security agencies. In recent months, the committee has also visited different Police facilities in Naguru, including housing projects, the forensic laboratory, Police headquarters, and the CCTV command centre, where members assessed progress and discussed issues related to funding, infrastructure, and staff welfare.

AIGP Tom Magambo has served as CID Director since his appointment by President Yoweri Museveni. Before taking up the position, Magambo worked with the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), making him the first person from outside the Uganda Police Force to lead the country’s Criminal Investigations Directorate.

Since his appointment, he has focused on improving investigative capacity, strengthening cooperation between security agencies, and enhancing coordination with institutions such as the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). His leadership has also emphasised training detectives, improving investigative methods, and ensuring that CID remains effective in responding to emerging security challenges.

The parliamentary visit highlights the importance of cooperation between oversight bodies and security institutions in improving service delivery and strengthening Uganda’s criminal justice system.
