Police have arrested Asiimwe Christian, also known as Don Chris, a former director of the defunct labour recruitment company Sky Pins, over allegations of fraudulent labour recruitment and obtaining money by false pretences in a case involving about Shs5 billion.
The suspect was arrested at approximately 2:00am on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from a bar in Zana, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.
According to police, Asiimwe allegedly collected money from several individuals between 2022 and 2025 after falsely representing that he could secure them employment opportunities abroad in countries including Canada, the United Kingdom, Qatar and Dubai.
The alleged job opportunities included positions such as waiters, cleaners and caregivers, among others. However, police said several applicants later complained that they had not received the promised jobs despite paying money for recruitment and placement services.
Police have so far recorded statements from more than 500 alleged victims linked to the case. The victims reportedly paid between Shs5 million and Shs10 million each, depending on the type of job and the country where they hoped to be deployed.
The accumulated complaints have put the value of the alleged fraud at approximately Shs5 billion, according to information from the ongoing investigations.
The suspect remains in police custody as detectives continue gathering evidence. Police said he will be presented before court once investigations are complete and in line with the law.
Police have also cautioned Ugandans seeking employment opportunities abroad to be careful when dealing with labour recruitment companies and agents. Members of the public have been advised to verify whether recruitment agencies are licensed and genuine before making payments or entering into agreements.
Anyone with information that may assist investigations into the matter has been encouraged to report to the nearest police station.
