Tooro Kingdom Confirms King Oyo Is in Critical Condition, Appeals for Prayers

Must read

Tooro Kingdom has confirmed that Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV is in a critical condition, calling on his subjects and well-wishers across Uganda and beyond to pray for the monarch.

The announcement was made by Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, who acknowledged growing public concern over the health of the 34-year-old King while urging people to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.

“His Majesty King Oyo is currently in a critical condition,” Rwomiire said in the official communication.

The Kingdom, however, did not reveal details about the nature of the illness, where the King is receiving treatment, or the specific circumstances surrounding his condition.

The Prime Minister appealed to the people of Tooro, friends of the Kingdom and well-wishers around the world to keep the monarch in their thoughts and prayers during what he described as a difficult and concerning period.

Tooro Kingdom also warned the public against relying on rumours and speculation circulating on social media regarding the King’s health.

“We equally appeal to everyone to refrain from speculation, rumours or sharing unverified information regarding His Majesty’s condition,” the statement said.

The statement comes amid increased public attention following reports about the monarch’s health. Earlier this month, the Kingdom had dismissed reports concerning King Oyo’s wellbeing, saying he was outside the country for official engagements and studies.

However, the latest communication marks the first time the Kingdom has officially acknowledged that the King is facing a serious health challenge.

The Kingdom has not confirmed claims circulating online that the monarch is suffering from cancer or that he has been placed on life support, saying such reports remain unverified unless confirmed through official channels.

Rwomiire said the Kingdom understands the concern and anxiety caused by news about the King’s health but urged the public to respect the privacy of the monarch and the Royal Family.

“We understand the concern and anxiety that news of this nature will naturally cause, but we ask for calm, restraint and respect for His Majesty and the Royal Family,” he said.

King Oyo was born on April 16, 1992, and became the Omukama of Tooro in 1995 after the death of his father, Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.

He was only three years old when he inherited the throne and was officially enthroned on September 12, 1995, making him one of the youngest reigning monarchs in the world.

Over the years, King Oyo has championed causes related to youth empowerment, health, education and cultural preservation. In 2016, he was appointed a UNAIDS Cultural Champion for HIV and AIDS among young people in Eastern and Southern Africa.

As concerns over his health continue, Tooro Kingdom has asked the public to rely on official updates and unite in prayer for the recovery of the young monarch.
