A total of 384 officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), Forensic Services, and K9 Unit have commenced a rigorous one-month skills enhancement and ideological orientation course at the Police Field Force Unit Training Base in Kikandwa, Wakiso District.
The course was officially flagged off by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abas Byakagaba, who underscored the critical importance of sharpening investigative capabilities to meet the dynamic demands of modern policing.
Speaking during the launch, the IGP urged the officers to treat the training as a crucial step toward revitalizing the Uganda Police Force’s investigative function. “This course is not only about skills—it’s about redefining our approach to criminal investigations in line with national priorities and the evolving nature of crime,” he said. “You must become more proactive, professional, and accountable in your duties.”
The program will cover a wide range of subjects including advanced investigative techniques, crime scene management, forensic analysis, and enhanced K9 operations. Officers will also receive ideological training aimed at instilling integrity, discipline, and a service-oriented mindset.
Beyond individual skill development, the course also seeks to enhance coordination between investigative units and community-based policing models, allowing for more responsive and intelligence-led operations. It aligns with broader police reforms that integrate law enforcement into programs such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, enhancing officers’ ability to address crime at its roots.
As Uganda continues to confront sophisticated criminal threats, from organized crime to cyber-related offenses, this specialized training is expected to produce a new cadre of investigators ready to deliver justice swiftly and professionally.
With strengthened investigative capacity and renewed commitment, these officers are poised to become a cornerstone of effective law enforcement and public trust restoration across the country.
