A police officer in Mpondwe Lhubiriha Town Council, Kasese District, has died after being struck by a falling tree during a heavy rainstorm on Sunday afternoon. The tragic incident happened at Mpondwe Police Station, where the officer was inside the police depot at the time. Strong winds, which came with little warning, are believed to have loosened the tree, causing it to fall and crash onto the structure.
The storm, which hit parts of western Uganda on June 8, caused serious damage across the region. Trees were uprooted, buildings were damaged, and normal activities were brought to a standstill. The officer’s death is the most serious report from the storm so far. His name had not yet been released by the time of reporting.
Police officials described the situation as a heartbreaking result of extreme weather. The Uganda Police Force is currently investigating the full details of what happened. They have promised to release an official statement once more information is available.
This sad event has shocked the local community and raised concern over the increasing number of weather-related accidents in Uganda. As climate patterns continue to change, many are calling for better preparation and safer building structures to protect lives during such storms.
