Today, July 26, 2025, Hon. Florence Mayoga made a significant impact in the lives of families affected by landslides in the Bunambutye settlement camp, Bulambuli district, by donating over 1,000 sets of clothes, toothpaste, towels and soap. This selfless act is a shining example of the profound difference that small acts of kindness can make in individuals and communities.
Hon. Mayoga’s gesture not only provides essentials but also brings hope and dignity to those in need. The Bunambutye settlement camp, home to over 1,000 people displaced by landslides, has faced significant challenges, including a lack of clothing, bedding, and clean water. The camp’s residents have been living in tents, which were damaged by a powerful storm, leaving them exposed to rain.
The donation is a timely intervention, considering the struggles the families in the camp are facing. Many have lost their homes, livelihoods, and loved ones, and are in dire need of support. Hon. Mayoga’s initiative demonstrates that collective efforts can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by disasters.
The landslide victims face numerous challenges, including a water crisis, food shortage, overcrowding, and separation of families. Residents struggle to access clean water, relying on nearby streams and swamp water for domestic use. Some victims have fled the camp due to lack of food, leading to increased cases of domestic violence. The camp is overcrowded, with families living in tents and facing health risks. Men, women, and children are housed separately, causing emotional distress.
Hon. Florence Nambozo Mayoga further plans to provide uniforms to pupils in Primary 3 to Primary 7 in all schools in Sironko, further demonstrating her commitment to supporting vulnerable communities. Her donation is a step towards supporting the landslide victims and helping them rebuild their lives.
Hon. Mayoga’s selfless act serves as an inspiration to us all, demonstrating the impact that individual actions can have on the lives of others.
Her example of kindness and generosity is a testament to the difference one person can make.
As the community comes together to support the landslide victims, we are reminded that every small act counts, and collective efforts can create lasting change
