Special Interest Groups Vote Begins!! Your Voice, Your Future!

Must read

The Electoral Commission has started an important phase in the 2025/2026 General Elections Roadmap — the elections for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Committees at the Municipality and City Division level. This is a key moment for all citizens, especially those in the categories of Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and Youth, to make their voices heard and help shape the future of their communities.

The campaign meetings for all candidates began on July 28 and are taking place over two days, ending on July 29. This is a time when the candidates are presenting their ideas and plans, hoping to win the trust and votes of the people they wish to represent. It is also an opportunity for voters to learn more about the individuals seeking leadership roles in the SIGs Committees.

Voting begins soon after the campaigns. On July 30, voters will head to the polls to elect their representatives for the Older Persons Committees. This will be followed by polling for the PWDs Committees on August 1, and then for the Youth Committees on August 4. These elections are vital because they ensure that the needs and rights of special groups are addressed in the larger national conversation.

The Electoral Commission is urging all eligible voters to participate actively in these elections and help strengthen democracy at all levels. Every vote counts, and every group deserves to be heard. This is not just a vote — it’s a chance to choose leaders who understand and care about the unique challenges faced by different communities.

As the 2025/2026 General Elections process continues, the SIGs elections mark an important step in building a more inclusive and representative Uganda. Stay informed, get involved, and make your vote count!
