Discover Uganda’s Population Story Through the 2024 Census

Must read

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has been working hard to provide the most up-to-date and detailed information about the people and homes across Uganda. Through the National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) 2024, they are showing the country’s true picture—how many people live in each region, how families are structured, and how the population is changing.

So far, UBOS has shared a Preliminary Report, which was released on June 27, 2024. This first report gave a general idea of the total population and some basic facts. But there is much more to come. A more detailed Final Report – Volume I is scheduled for release on December 31, 2024, and it is expected to cover all the main findings in depth.

In addition to the national reports, UBOS has already started releasing regional profiles. These profiles give specific information about different sub-regions in Uganda, such as the number of people living there, household characteristics, and how different areas compare to others. These reports include regions like Kampala Capital City, Acholi, Busoga, Tooro, Ankole, Karamoja, Buganda, and many more. Most of these regional reports were uploaded in June 2025, showing UBOS’s commitment to timely and detailed reporting.

An Interactive Dashboard is also available, where users can explore census results online, making it easier for anyone—whether you are a student, policymaker, or researcher—to understand Uganda’s population trends.

The census is more than just numbers. It helps the government plan better services like schools, hospitals, and roads. It also guides decisions about where to build and how to distribute resources fairly. With these latest updates, Uganda is taking a big step toward using data to build a better future for all its citizens.

In the coming months, as more profiles and the final national report are released, Ugandans will get a clearer, more accurate picture of the country’s progress and needs. This census is not just about counting people—it’s about making every person count.
