Uganda Police, UNOC Join Hands in New Push for Road Safety and Human Rights

Must read

The Uganda Police has expressed appreciation to the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) team, led by Chief Operations Officer Ms. Samantha Barungi, for visiting the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety at Nateete. The visit was aimed at understanding the functions of the Directorate and exploring possible partnerships to improve road safety in the country.

Police said the engagement showed a strong commitment from both institutions toward the common goal of making Uganda’s roads safer for all road users. The discussions touched on several important concerns, including areas that need urgent attention. The meeting highlighted that road safety cannot be achieved by one institution alone but requires collective effort and collaboration.

Later in the evening, the Inspector General of Police continued his sensitization and ideological orientation tour by meeting officers from the Katonga Region. During his address, he reminded the officers that professionalism, respect for the rule of law, and protection of human rights must remain at the center of their work. He emphasized that communities should always feel safe, which calls for proactive and intentional policing rather than working from a distance.

The officers were urged to wear patriotism proudly, to serve with a positive attitude, and to prioritize vulnerable groups such as women and children. The IGP stressed that customer care at police stations, quick response to emergencies, and effective coordination with other agencies are non-negotiable values that every officer must uphold.

He also called on officers to remain accountable to the citizens they serve and to actively support government programs as part of the country’s journey toward Vision 2040. As Uganda heads into the election season, the IGP reminded the police force of their critical role in ensuring that the electoral process remains free, fair, and peaceful for all Ugandans.

The day’s engagements reflected a broader message: that road safety, community security, and respect for human rights are shared responsibilities. By working together with partners and strengthening internal discipline, the Uganda Police aims to build a safer and more secure future for every Ugandan.
