The Commander of Traffic for the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), SSP Godwin, has called on traffic police officers to uphold professionalism, discipline and integrity as they carry out their duties on Uganda’s roads. He made the remarks while addressing officers from Entebbe, Kajjansi, Wakiso, Nateete, Naggalama, Wandegeya and Kasangati during a meeting held at City Square.
SSP Godwin reminded the officers that their conduct while on duty directly affects public confidence in the Uganda Police Force. He urged them to remain professional at all times, treat road users with respect and courtesy, and avoid actions that could damage the image of the force.
He also emphasized the need for officers to enforce traffic laws fairly and consistently without favouritism. According to the Commander, every road user deserves equal treatment, and proper enforcement of traffic regulations is key to reducing indiscipline on the roads.
The Commander encouraged the officers to work as one team and remain accountable for their actions. He said cooperation among traffic officers is essential in ensuring smooth traffic flow, improving service delivery and responding effectively to challenges encountered on the roads.
Road safety awareness was another major issue highlighted during the meeting. SSP Godwin urged officers to continue educating motorists, riders, pedestrians and the general public about responsible road use. He noted that public sensitization plays a major role in preventing accidents and saving lives.
He further called on officers to maintain a strong and visible police presence on major roads and highways. According to him, visible policing not only improves traffic management but also reassures the public and discourages reckless behaviour by road users.
The Commander also instructed officers to remain alert and respond quickly whenever traffic incidents or emergencies occur. He said timely intervention can help prevent further accidents, reduce traffic congestion and protect lives.
SSP Godwin encouraged the officers to continue supporting ongoing road safety campaigns and enforcement operations aimed at reducing road traffic crashes. He noted that these efforts are important in promoting safer roads and protecting communities across the Kampala Metropolitan area.
He reminded the officers that every member of the traffic police has a critical responsibility in maintaining law and order on the roads. Through commitment, discipline and professionalism, he said, officers can make a significant contribution to improving road safety across the country.
The meeting reaffirmed the Uganda Police Force’s commitment to strengthening traffic management, promoting responsible road use and building stronger public trust through professional service and effective law enforcement.
