“Even Museveni Can’t Stop Me – Lukwago Vows to Fight for Kampala”

Must read

The political battle for Kampala City has taken a dramatic twist after Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago officially declared his interest to contest again in the upcoming elections. While addressing his supporters, Lukwago sent out a strong warning to his political rivals and city tycoons who, according to him, are plotting to bring him down.In a fiery speech, Lukwago revealed that he is aware of powerful businessmen who do not wish him well.

He singled out city tycoon Hamis Kiggundu, popularly known as Ham, accusing him of wishing him nothing but death. “Whenever Ham Kiggundu sees me, he wishes me only death. But I want to assure him that I am here to stay. I am not going anywhere,” Lukwago declared to a cheering crowd.Lukwago insisted that he remains the only true voice of the opposition in Kampala. He reminded voters of the many struggles he has endured as mayor, including confrontations with security forces where he was harassed and even had his clothes torn during protests. “I have suffered for this city, and nobody should think I can simply retreat. Even if General Museveni himself stood for Lord Mayor, I would defeat him badly,” he boldly stated. The Kampala Lord Mayor also accused some wealthy businessmen of secretly sponsoring candidates to unseat him. He claimed that tycoons such as Ham Kiggundu are backing National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Eng. Balimwezo, who has already shown interest in running for the seat. Lukwago dismissed such efforts as desperate attempts that would not succeed.According to Lukwago, the people of Kampala know his record and will not be swayed by money or intimidation. He urged his supporters to stand firm and resist what he called “plots of the rich and powerful” who want to capture the city’s leadership for their own interests.Observers say Lukwago’s statement has set the tone for what promises to be a heated mayoral race. His rivalry with NUP candidates and the involvement of influential businessmen could make Kampala one of the most closely watched battlegrounds in the 2026 elections. For now, Lukwago remains confident and defiant. With his vow never to bow out of Kampala politics, his declaration has fired up both his loyal base and his critics. One thing is certain — the road to City Hall in 2026 will not be smooth, and the battle lines are already being drawn.
