The Uganda Police Force has intensified its fight against crime in Nansana following a major intelligence-led operation on the night of September 9, 2025. The operation, carried out around 10 pm, specifically targeted criminals who have been terrorizing residents in the area.
According to police, the swoop led to the arrest of 29 suspects who were found in possession of narcotic drugs, mainly opium. The suspects are currently being held at Lubigi Police Station as investigations continue.
Among those arrested are Ssegawa Jonathon, Owino Julius, Karungi Joseph, Mwesigye Godwin, Sserunjoji Carlos, Kabuye Jackson, Wasswa Rogers, and several others, bringing the total to 29. The full list includes both known and previously unknown individuals, raising concerns about the spread of drug-related crime in the community.
Police confirmed that exhibits recovered during the operation included opium and mairungi (khat). These items have been recorded as evidence and will be used to support prosecution once the investigations are complete.
Security officials noted that the next step will involve a thorough screening of the suspects to identify repeat offenders or those linked to other criminal activities in the Nansana policing area. Appropriate charges will then be placed to ensure justice is served.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, explained that the operation is part of a wider strategy to restore peace and safety in crime-prone areas. He reassured residents that police will continue targeting both known and unknown suspects involved in drug abuse, theft, and other criminal activities.
The arrests have been welcomed by community members who have long raised concerns about insecurity in Nansana. With more operations planned, the police say they are determined to crack down on criminal networks and make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
