The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, has handed over 16 brand-new vehicles to officers of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The cars, given to senior staff and Resident State Attorneys in and around Kampala, are aimed at helping the office deliver criminal justice more quickly and efficiently. The handover took place at the Office of the Resident State Attorney in Nakawa.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lady Justice Abodo thanked the Government of Uganda for supporting the ODPP and prioritising justice. She also praised her staff for their hard work, noting that prosecutors handle complicated cases, manage heavy workloads, and often work long hours under difficult conditions.
“These vehicles are not a luxury; they are tools of service,” she said. “They will help prosecutors move faster between courts, police stations, and offices, safely transport files and sensitive documents, improve supervision and coordination across Kampala, and respond quickly to urgent matters. In the end, this will improve efficiency and expand access to justice for all Ugandans.”
Ms. Agnes Kainza Nzogi, Permanent Secretary, also spoke at the event, reminding staff to follow Public Service rules and take care of the vehicles responsibly.
Deputy DPP Mr. Odumbi James Owere reflected on the ODPP’s humble beginnings when it operated with a long-chassis vehicle and two Peugeots donated by the British Government. He praised the growth of the ODPP fleet, which now has more than 120 well-maintained vehicles. On behalf of the beneficiaries, he thanked the DPP and senior management for improving the working conditions of prosecutors, saying the new vehicles would motivate staff to deliver justice more effectively.
The handover of the vehicles is more than just adding cars to the fleet; it represents a renewed commitment to efficiency, professionalism, and better delivery of justice across Uganda.
