Produce National Statistical Obstruct To Get Government Resources- ED UBOS Urges Agencies

The Executive Director of Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Dr Chris Mukiza has urged all government agencies and Local government Institutions to produce National Statistical Obstruct if they want to benefit from government resources, Spyreports has learnt.

The National Chief Statistician made remarks during his opening remarks of the second day Africa Statistics Week at UBOS headquarters in Kampala. “Every government agency and Ministry must have a Statistical unit not just a mere desk to correct statistics and data that will help in planning and development,” he says adding UBOS will soon ask Parliament to have one in order get resources.

He added every Parish chief has a tablet donated by UBOS. “Use those tablets to correct statistics and data in your communities that will help in planning and development,” He emphasized adding that recently UBOS signed an MOU with cultural institutions like Buganda,Bunyoro, Bugisu among others on how to use data for planning purposes.

He adds that digitalization of data transforms how the institution manages information and if effectively implemented,eases the correction and harmonization of administrative across the board. “It enhances accuracy, efficiency and accessibility which are critical in improving data governance and accountability” He added. He further revealed that advanced data driven era, digitization has become essential in transforming how we collect,manage and administrative data for Statistical and policy purposes.

Dr Rodgers Matte who was the Chief Guest says Statistics are a language of development. “Statistics are the means through which aspirations become plans,plans become policies and policies measurable outcomes,” He says adding that reliable data enabled government to anticipate needs, allocate resources efficiently.

“Planning without data is speculation while planning with data is foresight” He sounds. He also says statistics provides the factual foundation for tracking global development goals such as NDP IV.
