Kampala Central Police Station has carried out a major disruptive operation aimed at ensuring a safe and crime-free festive season. The operation, conducted on 16th December 2025, led to the arrest of 90 suspects believed to be involved in criminal activities targeting members of the public. Police described the move as part of proactive measures to curb crime during the holiday season when criminal activities tend to increase.
According to authorities, the operation specifically targeted areas known for criminal activity, often referred to as “black spots,” where thieves and robbers commonly ambush unsuspecting residents. Police said these areas had been identified through previous reports and intelligence from both the community and law enforcement sources.
The crackdown was carried out in several key locations across the city, including Railway, Biwologoma, Nakasero, William Street, Old Kampala, and Arua Park, among others. Police officers reportedly conducted thorough patrols and checks, ensuring that any suspicious activity was immediately addressed.
SP Kawala Racheal, the Police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), confirmed that the operation was successful and emphasized that the arrests were part of a wider effort to improve public safety. She explained that these proactive interventions are necessary to deter criminals and reassure residents that the police are committed to their protection.
Authorities noted that the festive season often sees an increase in petty theft, armed robbery, and other criminal acts. They stressed that operations like this are designed to disrupt criminal networks before they can carry out offenses, thereby reducing the risk to the public.
Police have assured the public that those arrested will face appropriate legal action, and investigations into their involvement in criminal activities are ongoing. Officers are also following up on tips from local residents to ensure that no suspect escapes justice.
